Ideal Weight - Looking Back at What I was ...

Whenever I think about losing weight, I would remember when I was a high school student. That is the time when I had the ideal weight and the ideal everything of my life.

17 years old - 60 kg

That has always been my goal for every time that I tried to lose weight. But that came with a price.

1. I trained every day.

It was not me who did the training on my own. It was scheduled by the school, more like a soldier training.

We got up at around 5:30 am every morning, gathered together and trained in formation for 15-20 minutes. Then we came to the classrooms for morning reading, that was when I read English and Chinese aloud.

In the afternoon after three classes, we would have a free session of 45 minutes, which was supposed to be used for exercising. What I did was running around the wheat (in the spring) or corn (in the autumn) field outside of the school. Then I would stretch the muscles and do some pull ups.

2. I eat a limited portion every day for months up to years.

When I was at high school, the benefits of China's opening up policy did not arrived at the rural areas yet. So the situation was worse than the schools now.

For all the 3 meals in a day, I ate 2 steamed bread (they were of the same size, made of wheat flour.) and some pickles and vegetable dishes from the canteen. The canteen was stingy and used little to none oil for their cooking. That was why there was no fat guys in the school.

Because there was no meat or oil with the food I ate, there was none in my body system. Every time (nearly half or a month) I went home from the boarding school, my mom would cook a chicken for me. During the night, I would not fail to get up and throw up.

Yes, you can see that I was living like a monk. But the funny thing is that I like that me very much. And I even missed that time. I didn't get ill much except a fever once a year. I was nimble physically and mentally.

3. I focused on studying for college entrance exams (equivalent to SATs).

When you have a clear goal in mind, you would like to pull your whole weight on it and you can succeed in the end. My goal during high school was the exams.

I focused on every subject that I need to learn. I don't even think much about foods or anything although I have been a food lover ever since I was born. This nature was exaggeratedly shown afterwards in my life, which is why I have to lose weight all the time.

Dear readers, you might also have a moment in your life that you cherish the most and like yourself the most. Just come up with the feeling you had then and take it as your ideal weight goal.
